What is cataract surgery

In general, cataract surgery is performed by replacing the diseased lens with an artificial lens to treat cataracts. The commonly used cataract operations in clinic are as follows:

1. Extracapsular cataract extraction

The posterior capsule was retained and the diseased lens nucleus and cortex were removed. Because the posterior capsule is preserved, the stability of the intraocular structure is protected and the risk of complications due to vitreous prolapse is reduced.

2. Phacoemulsification cataract aspiration

With the aid of ultrasonic energy, the posterior capsule was retained, and the nucleus and cortex of the diseased lens were removed using capsulorhexis forceps and nucleus cleft knife. The wounds formed in this type of surgery are smaller, less than 3mm, and require no suture, reducing the risk of wound infection and corneal astigmatism. Not only is the operation time short, the recovery time is also short, patients can recover vision in the short term after the operation.

3. Femtosecond laser assisted cataract extraction

The surgical safety and accuracy of laser treatment are guaranteed.

4. Intraocular lens implantation

An artificial lens made of a high polymer is implanted into the eye to restore vision.
